Borobudur Temple is one of the largest historic building in the world. Borobudur was built by the dynasty dynasty between the years 750-842 AD or 300 years before Angkor Wat in Cambodia and 400 years before the founding of Cathedral Churches in Europe. Only little is known about the early history of Borobudur except for the involvement of a large labor force must be deployed under the blazing tropical sun to lift and sculpt 60 000 m3 of rock.
Sir Thomas Stanford Raffles reveals the existence of Borobudur in 1814. He found the temple is in a dormant state and ordered the area to be cleaned from the surrounding bush and subsequently conducted a survey on the state of the Borobudur temple.
Massive restoration project began from 1905 to 1910 led by Dr. Theodore Van Erp. With the help of UNESCO both for meyelamatkan restoration of Borobudur was conducted from August 1913 to 1983.
Overall Borobudur has a height 42 m, but currently only 34.5 m (after restoration) and has an area of 123 x 123 m. This building storey or multi-level 10 which is called: Hhumtcambharabudara, which means a mountain which is a collection of virtues in the 10-level Bodhisattvas.
